WHAT CAUSES FINE LINES AND WRINKLES?
As we age, the elastin band collagen in our skin breaks down and our body does not replenish it in the same way as previously.
The lack of these natural youth enhancers helps to cause wrinkles in the skin. Other factors such as sun damage, smoking and genetic factors also play roles in how quickly the skin shows signs of aging.
TREATMENTS OF FINE LINES AND WRINKLES
It is important to establish first if the lines are dynamic or static. By this, I mean are the wrinkles caused by repetitive facial muscle movement (dynamic) or are present without facial expression (static). Dynamic and static lines are treated differently.
Examples of dynamic lines are :
Worry lines/ horizontal lines across forehead
Frown lines
Laughter lines/crows feet
Bunny lines across the nose
If the lines are only present during muscle movement botulinum toxin would be the treatment of choice.
As we age the dynamic lines can then also be present when there is no movement of muscle underneath, these lines may require additional treatments such as dermal fillers or Dracula facial to improve both the loss in volume and quality of the skin.
